Multiplying and Dividing by Powers of Ten

Concept:

How To Use the Concept:

When you multiply a number by a power of ten, the decimal moves one place to the right for every power of ten.

When you divide a number by a power of ten, the decimal moves one place to the left for every power of ten.

    Example:
    3.56 x 104 = 35,600.
Since ten is to the power of 4, you move the decimal 4 places to the right. In this example, you also needed to add zeros to hold places.

    256.98 / 102 = 2.5698
Since ten is to the power of 2, you move the decimal 2 places to the left.

Type a decimal in every answer!
