Speare, Elizabeth George
Readability: 5-6

"From the day that Daniel had watched his father put to death unjustly, he had lived for the time that he could help drive the Romans from his country and exact vengeance. Revenge and blood were the only things that would repay the cruel deaths of his father and mother."

Daniel runs away and lives in the mountains with Rosh, an outlaw he believes will free the Jews from the Romans. The only things he lives for are his vows of hatred and vengeance for the Romans. This vow nearly destroys the only things he really cares about.
