Main Characters: Johnny Tremain, Priscilla, Rab
Setting: Boston, 1773
Readability: 7
"Dressed in a private's uniform, fifteen-year-old Johnny Tremain made his way to the harbour.
A Yankee caught in a British uniform would be shot, but Johnny had to take that chance. It was the only way he could escape Boston and join the patriots near Lexington."
Apprenticed to a silversmith, proud Johnny Tremain exhibits talent and leadership, but little
tact. A crucible of molten silver breaks, burning his right hand and rendering it useless. Now a liability to the silversmith, Johnny seeks a new livlihood. Eventually he becomes a messenger for the Committee of Public Safety and becomes acquainted with many leaders of the American Revolution. Johnny becomes less self-centered as his concern for others matures.
