Little Britches
Moody Ralph
Readability: 6
Setting: Colorado, near Denver, 1906-8
Main character: Ralph Moody, age 8 to 10
Ralph's life had completely changed. H1s world was up-side-down. His family had moved from a factory city ln New Hampshire to a run-down ranch in Colorado. He left behind so much in New Hampshire. Colorado seemed like such a lonely, boring place.
"All boys and most girls will identify with this story of an Eastern boy, transplanted to a run-
down Colorado farm. The story is an autobiographical account, told by Ralph Moody himself, of
his early introduction to the ranch life of becoming a cowboy.
A tender family relanonship between Ralph and his ailing, but understanding, father strengthens the emotional development of any reader.
This story is especially good for reluctant readers. It is easy to read and also to identify with
the central character.
