Cusi, and Indian boy, lived high in the Andes with only Chuto, the old lnca llama herder, He had not seen any other people for eight years. He had discovered a rock ledge on which he could crouch and see people. They were so small they appeared almost ant-like.
"You miss people, my Cusi?" the old man asked.
"I cannot tell you since I know no people," the boy answered.
The old man said, "Come. I have a plan. You and I, Cusi, will go on a journey."
This is the story of a young Indian shepherd boy, Cusi, who is about to make his first trip into civilization. He has been living with Chuto and has not seen any other humans for eight years. They have had custody of the Inca llama herd. Misti, the young llama that is Cusi's own, comes close. He seems to be asking, "Are you going, Cusi?"
Questi Cusi's answer is, "Yes, but I will be back. " He goes with Chuto to the Salt Pits, two valleys away.
Cusi always wondered about his family. Chuto told him that he was found in a half-moon tree. He only knows that sometimes he has certain knowledge that cannot be explained. Cusi, in his adventure, learns the value of the family and the place it holds in life.
