Birds and Superstition
Birds have always interested man. He has studied them, classified them, even imitated them. He has also envied them for their ability to fly. As a result of this interest, there are many strange superstitions about birds.
Birds are often omens of bad luck. A bird accidentally flying into your house indicates that news is on the way. If it cannot get out, it is a certain sign of death. A woodpecker tapping on your house means bad news. Newlyweds receiving a wedding gift with designs showing birds can expect their happiness to fly away.
However, some birds bring good luck. Barn swallows nesting in your barn mean good fortune. Wrens nesting near your home are also signs of good fortune.
