Candle Making
When our lights go out during a storm, many of us light candles. A long time ago, candles were the only source of light for the home.
The old waxen candles are believed to have originated in ancient Phoenicia. Over two thousand years ago, the old Phoenician traders had waxen candles for merchandise.
Waxen candles are believed to have been prepared by dipping a wick into wax made by bees. Later, tallow, which is animal fat, was used to make candles. Candles were made by dipping the wicks into hot tallow and then cooling and dipping again. This was done over and over again until the candle was ready for use.
Today, candles make beautiful decorations. They are usually made by machinery. A wax that has been filtered out of petroleum and refined is the material used to make these candles.
