The male cardinal is a devoted mate and father. He serenades the female as she builds the nest and sits on the eggs. He carries food to the female. When the young are hatched, the male helps the female feed and care for them. The cardinal is a beneficial bird to farmers and gardeners. This bird eats many harmful insects.
