Peacock
The male peafowl, or peacock, is one of the most beautiful birds in the world. You may have seen one strutting proudly through the zoo with his beautiful tail raised. It is a magnificent sight, for his richly colored tail feathers glisten in the bright sunlight.
The peacock's brightly colored tail spreads like a fan. It is made up of stiff, beautiful feathers. The true tail supports the glorious plumage. The peacock even has a colorful crest on his head.
The female peafowl, or peahen, is not pretty at all. She is a dull brown and has no beautiful fan or crest.
The peafowl is a member of the pheasant family. Wild peafowl live in the jungles of the East Indies and Asia. However, they can be found all over the world as ornaments of curiosity in the zoos and parks.
