Body Temperature
The temperature of a normal person measures 98.6 degrees on a Fahrenheit thermometer. Sometimes the body temperature may vary a little above or below this point. If the change should be 10 degrees either way, it could cause death.
Under normal conditions the bodies temperature is automatically kept the same. It is a delicate and continuous process. Heat is produced in the body all the time at various rates of speed. This heat is carried by the blood to the skin's surface Where it passes off into
the air.
The surface blood vessels become larger and can carry more blood when the body becomes too hot. Because of this, more heat can be brought to the top of the skin and sent out of the body. As the body becomes hotter, sweat glands pour out perspiration which evaporates and helps cool the body. When the body becomes cold, this process is just the opposite.
