Why Kill Flies?

Swat one male and one female fly in early spring and you will kill about 340,000,000,000,000 flies that they and their young would have produced by the end of the summer. Let live a spider which you are about to kill and it will keep from being born more flies than the stars you can see in a clear night. Or keep alive one bird or lizard, and you will have killed in like manner a billion time a billion flies. If there were no natural enemies of flies, the world would be covered with them.

Why kill flies? On their sticky feet and hairy bodies and in their sucking mouths they carry many million germs, and bring some forty kinds of disease. They are born in filth, and bring that filth to you.
