The Saw Mill

When I was a little girl, I spent several hours of almost every day in a large lumber mill. I liked to listen to the scraping and grinding of the machinery and watch all the busy men at work. My father made a comfortable little seat for me, where I could sit and watch the sharp saws cut throught the big logs, scattering sparks and sawdust. The men would cut off the clean white boards just as easily as if the big logs had been made of chocolate fudge. There was a fresh, woody smell everywhere in the mill. The smell snd the noise of all the busy machines would often make me drowsy and I would fall asleep and have happy dreams. Then I would wake up and find a jolly big lumberjack smiling down at me, all ready to tease me about being a sleepyhead.
