Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, Duke of
Cornwall and Rothesay, Earl of Chester and Carrick, Baron of
Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Great Steward of Scotland is the
heir apparent to the British throne and eldest son of Queen
Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Charles attended the Royal Air Force College, where he became an outstanding pilot, as well as the Royal Naval College, from where he took a tour of duty with the Royal Navy. Charles, who refuses to be a mere "ribbon cutter", is actively involved in a number of social and environmental issues. In 1981, Charles wed Lady Diana Frances Spencer, daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer. They separated and Lady Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997. Prince Charles has two children, Prince William of Wales (1982) who after Prince Charles is second in line of succession to the throne, and Prince Henry Charles Albert David (1984).
