Diana, Princess of Wales, daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer, was born the Honorable Diana Spencer in a house her parents rented on Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate. Her playmates were Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. She became Lady Diana Spencer when her father succeeded to the earldom in 1975. After her schooling, she moved to South Kensington, London, where she became a kindergarten teacher at the prestigious Young England school in Pimlico. She renewed her contacts with the Royal family and developed a friendship with Prince Charles. In 1981, Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married, They had two children, Prince William of Wales (1982), who after Prince Charles is second in line of succession to the throne, and Prince Henry Charles Albert David (1984). She raised the level of awareness to the number of land mines present in war torn regions of the world. Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.
