American motion picture animator Walt Disney created the world famous animated cartoon character Mickey Mouse. Disney started his career producing advertising films in Kansas City. He moved to Hollywood, where he started a partnership with his brother Roy. The first two Mickey Mouse films they made were silent. When Disney added a soundtrack in 1928, Mickey Mouse gained international fame. Among Disney's many animated cartoon shorts and features are such classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1938), Fantasia (1940) and Mary Poppins (1965) Disney introduced a new method to synchronize sound and animation and launched two amusement parks, Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.
