"Discovered by Spaniard Juan de Bermudez in 1515."

Bermuda, sometimes referred to as the Somers Islands, is a British colony consisting of a group of 120 limestone islands, some 700 nautical miles southeast of New York City. The seven main islands are connected by bridges, which form a continuous route of about 22 miles. Hamilton is the capital. The population is estimated at about 60,000 people. Because of its constant, warm climate (Bermuda has no change in seasons), it is visited by some 400,000 tourists each year -- mostly Americans -- who arrive and leave the island by air. Because of its strategic location, Bermuda is of military importance to the United States, which maintains a naval base there.
