"On either side of us were hills from 1,000 or 1,500 feet high, wooded from cret to heel. As far as the eye could range forward were columns of steam in the air, misshapen lumps of lime, mist-like preadamite monsters, still pools of turquoise-blue stretches of blue cornflowers, a river that coiled on itself 23 times, pointed boulders of strange colors, and ridges of glaring, staring white." Rudyard Kipling

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is one of the scenic wonders of the world. It is the most spectacular and deepest canyon carved by the Colorado River, which runs some 1400 miles from Wyoming and Colorado to the Gulf of California in Mexico. The Grand Canyon extends 217 miles, is from 4 to 18 miles wide and at places up to 5,700 feet deep. The view along the different rims changes as the sun light shifts and casts its shadows. Within the canyon's vast depth, erosion has created a multitude of pinnacles and colored rock buttes, some of which are named after ancient gods and Indian heroes, such as Pima Point and Great Thumb Mesa.
